The best oils for dry skin
What’s your skin type – dry or dehydrated?
Dry skin is an issue which affects many and can often leave skin feeling dull and malnourished. However, it is not to be confused with dehydration. Dry skin lacks sebum and natural oils, but usually has sufficient amounts of water; whereas dehydatrated skin is a condition caused by loss of water from transdermal evaporation.
Fortunately, a good moisturizer can go a long way in treating both dry and dehydrated skin types; so it’s vital that you use the correct type for your skin. While most people opt for a lotion-based serum, oil-based moisturizers may be a far more effective solution – offering the skin an intensely nourishing and soothing remedy.
With this in mind, here are some of the best oils found in oil-based moisturizers for dry skin:
Grapeseed oil
This light, vitamin-rich oil is the Holy Grail for dry skin – which is why you’ll find it in all our AMFORA moisturizers. As well as providing the skin with moisture, it also has anti-ageing properties thanks to its polyphenols and is even safe on skin prone to breakouts, due to its lighter formula compared to other oils.
Olive oil
Olive oil has been used on dry skin for hundreds of years and is loved by many in the beauty industry as a naturally-soothing alternative to synthetic products. It’s therefore no surprise that it features as one of the main ingredients in our AMFORA moisturizing range. A little dab of this oil goes a long way, so use sparingly.
Flaxseed oil
Flaxseed oil is rich in omega 3s, therefore acting as a great moisturizing and anti-ageing ingredient in our AMFORA moisturizing range. What’s more, antioxidants found in flaxseed oil are highly concentrated; helping protect skin against free-radicals and UV rays.
Borage oil
Borage oil contains high levels of the fatty gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), a strong anti-inflammatory found in certain plant oils – therefore making it a great ingredient for our AMFORA moisturizers. GLA is a type of omega-6 “essential” fatty acid that the body cannot make on its own and is essential for healthy skin.
Evening primrose oil
Last but not least, evening primrose oil is fantastic low comedogenic oil – meaning it’s less likely to clog your pores. Packed with essential fatty acids, this oil deeply nourishes dry skin, as well as reducing redness thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties.
